Types of Co-Teaching

There are five types of co-teaching:

  • Lead and support- this is where one teacher leads and the other teacher assists and support to students or assist students in small groups.
  • Station Teaching- Students are divided into groups and they work at stations set up in the classroom with each teacher. The students rotate stations and working with the teachers.
  • Parallel Teaching- Teachers plan together, the material can be delivered to small groups. Teachers plan the material together but they work in seperate groups but they both teach the material the same way.
  • Alternative Teaching- One teacher will take a small group and either pre-teach or re-teach the material while the other teacher is teaching the large group.
  • Team Teaching- Both teachers share in the planning and teaching of the students. Both teachers need to be coordinated and each must know the material well. This type of co-teaching usually works better when the teachers have been working together for a few years.
